A natural born citizen

In the Philippines, the term "natural born citizen" refers to a person born in the Philippines to at least one parent who is a citizen of the Philippines. This means that a person born in the Philippines to foreign parents is not considered anatural-born citizen, even if he was born on Philippine soil.



Naturalized citizen

On the other hand, a naturalized citizen is someone who was not born in the Philippines but has gone through the process of legally becoming a Filipino citizen. This process, known as naturalization, involves filing a petition with the Bureau of Immigration and conducting a background check. If the application is approved, the person will be granted Philippine citizenship and issued aPhilippine passport.




There are some important differences between natural born and naturalized citizens in the Philippines. A key difference is that natural-born citizens are considered full citizens of the Philippines from the moment they are born, while naturalized citizens must go through a naturalization process.

Another difference is that natural-born citizens are not required to swear an oath of allegiance to the Philippines, while naturalized citizens must do so as part of the naturalization process. Additionally, natural-born citizens are not required to renounce their allegiance to another country, whereas naturalized citizens must do so in order to become Philippine citizens.
